How Much Do Solar Panels and a Battery Cost in 2026?
Most price guides give you a wide range and leave it there. This one uses what our own customers actually paid: every Spark solar and battery order signed so far in 2026, 525 homes, set out by system size and battery.

On this page
- Spark customers paid a median of £14,226 for solar panels and a battery in 2026, fully fitted at 0% VAT. Half paid between £12,977 and £15,658.
- The most common system was 14 panels (about 6.7 kWp) with a 10 kWh battery.
- For the same number of panels, choosing a 10 kWh battery instead of 5 kWh added roughly £800 to £1,600.
- Four in five customers spread the cost with finance, most often over 15 or 5 years.
What Spark Customers Paid in 2026
The two things that move the price most are how many panels you have and how big a battery you choose. This table shows what homes with each combination paid.
| System size | Battery | Homes | Median price | Middle half paid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 5 kWp (up to 10 panels) | 5 kWh | 58 | £12,047 | £11,247–£12,537 |
| Under 5 kWp | 10 kWh | 40 | £13,123 | £12,566–£13,856 |
| 5–6 kWp (11–12 panels) | 5 kWh | 41 | £12,537 | £11,500–£13,292 |
| 5–6 kWp | 10 kWh | 55 | £14,153 | £13,517–£15,073 |
| 6–7 kWp (13–14 panels) | 5 kWh | 25 | £13,197 | £12,701–£14,337 |
| 6–7 kWp | 10 kWh | 51 | £14,213 | £13,343–£14,961 |
| 7–8 kWp (15–16 panels) | 5 kWh | 37 | £14,000 | £13,586–£14,684 |
| 7–8 kWp | 10 kWh | 49 | £14,782 | £13,617–£15,308 |
| 7–8 kWp | 15 kWh | 12 | £16,355 | £15,955–£17,210 |
| 8–9 kWp (17–18 panels) | 10 kWh | 24 | £15,128 | £14,348–£15,486 |
| 9 kWp and over (19+ panels) | 10 kWh | 32 | £16,713 | £15,787–£17,443 |
| 9 kWp and over | 15 kWh | 16 | £19,106 | £17,415–£20,655 |
Prices are what customers agreed to pay, fully fitted, at 0% VAT. Combinations with fewer than 12 homes are left out. Your price depends on your roof and the system designed for it.
What Changes the Price
Two homes with the same number of bedrooms can need quite different systems. These are the things that move the price.
System size. Each extra kilowatt-peak, roughly two more panels, added about £400–£500 at the median. The right size depends on how much electricity you use and how much roof you have. Our sizing guide shows what homes like yours chose.
Battery size. A bigger battery stores more of your daytime solar for the evening. It's the second biggest factor in the price, set out below.
Your roof. About one order in five needed an extra half day on site for a larger or more complicated roof, and around one in six included optimisers, often used where part of the roof is shaded or panels sit on more than one roof face.
Inverter size. A larger inverter suits bigger systems and batteries. Above 3.68 kW the network operator has to approve the system before we connect it. That adds time rather than cost; see how long installation takes.
How Much Does a Battery Add?
Every Spark system fitted in 2026 included a battery. Here's what homes paid in total, by battery size.
| Battery | Share of homes | Median total price |
|---|---|---|
| 5 kWh | 34% | £12,897 |
| 10 kWh | 48% | £14,348 |
| 15 kWh | 11% | £16,171 |
| 20 kWh | 4% | £18,617 |
Homes with bigger batteries also tended to have more panels, so part of that difference is the extra panels. Like for like, a 10 kWh battery instead of 5 kWh added roughly £800 to £1,600. We fit the EcoFlow OCEAN 2, which is built from 5 kWh or 8 kWh modules, so the battery can be sized to your evenings rather than to a fixed product.
VAT on Solar and Batteries
Installing solar panels and a battery in a home is currently zero-rated for VAT, and every price on this page is at 0% VAT.
HMRC says the zero rate applies until 31 March 2027, after which it is due to return to 5% (HMRC VAT Notice 708/6).
Ways to Pay
In 2026, 21% of Spark customers paid outright and 79% used finance. The most common terms were 15 years and 5 years.
Your quote will confirm the deposit, payment schedule and total price, and any finance agreement will set out its terms. Compare the forecast energy savings with the total amount payable; savings do not guarantee lower combined monthly costs. Finance is subject to status, affordability and approval. See the full breakdown on our Savings & Finance page.
Payback and Savings
Payback depends on the system price, how much you generate and use, your tariff and how you pay.
The median electricity price on our 2026 quotes was 24.7p per kWh, and homes that have shown us a bill since 2024 used a median of about 4,560 kWh a year, well above the UK average. Every Spark quote includes an independently validated (EPVS) savings forecast for your home. It is an estimate, not a guaranteed return.
How We Worked Out These Figures
These figures come from SparkOS, our own sales system.
They cover all 525 Spark solar and battery orders signed between 1 January and 5 November 2026, leaving out cancelled orders and those where finance was declined. "Median" is the middle price, and "middle half" is the range between the 25th and 75th percentile. We update these figures every quarter.
Your Questions, Answered.
How much do solar panels and a battery cost in 2026?
Spark customers paid a median of £14,226 fully fitted in 2026, at 0% VAT. Half paid between £12,977 and £15,658, depending mainly on the number of panels and the battery size.
How much does a 10 kWh battery add?
For homes with the same number of panels, a 10 kWh battery instead of 5 kWh added roughly £800 to £1,600 to the total in 2026.
Do I pay VAT on solar panels and batteries?
Not at the moment. Solar panels and batteries installed in homes are zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027.
Why might my quote be different from these figures?
Your price depends on your roof, the number of panels it takes, the battery you choose and any extra work, such as optimisers for shading. Your quote shows exactly what is included.
Can I spread the cost?
You can ask about finance. It is subject to status, affordability and approval, and your agreement will show the deposit, repayments and total amount payable.
